Nelson Associates' President, Peter N. Nelson, PE, provided the structural engineering for this turn of the century building's transformation from retail space to modern office space.
The project involved demolition of the three story wood frame and replacement with a new six story addition. Structural engineering work included a structural investigation, evaluation, and assessment of the existing building; development and implementation of a field testing program; original drawings were non-existent so field verification and measuring was completed on the structure; both non-destructive and core sampling tests were performed to determine structural elements needed for a full standard structural analysis of the building. The work included the design and installation of a new granite facade and supporting steel substructure. * This project represents individual experience of Peter N.
