Mr. Nelson represented the United States in China as a United States Delegate to that country. He toured the country with a group of consulting engineers focusing on the Country’s major construction projects: road and bridges; major high-rise building projects underway; infrastructure projects including the Airport Core Programme, an airport complex of expressways, tunnels, the world’s longest road-rail suspension bridge; and the Three Gorges Dam project, which when complete, will be the largest Dam in the world.

Engineering standards for concrete construction; high-strength concretes; evaluation, rehabilitation and repair of concrete structures to resist earthquake damage; and hybrid construction featuring innovative combinations of structural concrete, steel, and other materials were also areas of focus.
